Personally, I am a huge fan of YouTube and all the content it holds overs the years. As a singer, the category of videos I use most are of music. If I need to hear a song real fast, get the lyrics when I forget them, find a karaoke version or all the above, I look to YouTube. However, YouTube is so much more than that as I have discovered over the years. YouTube is the No. 2 search engine behind Google, which is a fact that blows my mind. Although when I start to think about the massive amount of various content it holds, things start to come together.
YouTube has made people famous, given people platforms to share their talents and even shared some of the most watched videos of all time. Jason McDonald in his book, ‘Social Media Workbook,” states that as a company on social media you should identify which of the following strategies on YouTube are most relevant to you:
Supportive: These are videos that support either your website or other social media accounts. These kinds of videos are mainly using YouTube as a host site.
Search / SEO: These are videos that you optimize for discovery by search with keywords near your product or service.
Share / Viral: Created videos with emotional content that encourage discovery by social sharing to the extent of going viral.
Then, once you decide on what strategy works best for your company and your audience, you begin to create and manage YouTube videos and channel. You will want to promote your videos through social media or your website. It could also help to reach out to influencers in your industry to share your videos and help to spread your content.
