Each Semester Brings Something New

As Thanksgiving gets closer, and summer gets further and further away I start to think about all that this semester has brought me. I can hardly believe the semester has gone so fast and that we only have five weeks left of classes and then one week of exams to follow. Each semester seems to be a different season of life with many lessons to take into the next semester and life in general. This semester has been a season of life full of learning about leadership, teamwork and understanding. I think one of the best gifts in life is having people around you to learn things from. I made a list on some of the things I have learned and am still learning more and more about each and every day.

1. Being a leader doesn’t mean being the best in the room.

Being a leader isn’t always about being the most skilled in the room. Being a leader is about managing team members, building relationships, gaining respect and trust, building vision for a team and other duties that come along. Having the skillset can be necessary and help to be a better leader, but being the best doesn’t always mean you should be the leader of the group.

2. Listening is one of the most important parts of any relationship or team.

Listening to one another can be vital to the success of a team. Listening to another team member’s ideas, concerns or experiences can bring insight to the team and overall empower team members to be engaged and productive toward the main goals and vision.

3. Put yourself in your team members shoes. You’ll be thankful one day for their understanding.

This does not automatically mean to be a push over. However, we have all had those low points in our lives where we were thankful someone gave us grace and a second chance. Don’t miss out on those opportunities to say “I understand, I feel for your situation, and I will give you grace and time.” You don’t know what is going on in that person’s life.



Each semester I feel like I learn so many things. There are always a few things that stand out in my mind and I think might be helpful to share sometimes! Hope you enjoy and feel free to comment any specific lessons you are learning this semester!
