Conferences Aren't Boring?
Conferences Aren’t Boring? Mind Blown.
Whenever I heard the word conference many adjectives came to my mind – boring, stingy, academic and most of all unimportant to public relations. However, after a long weekend in Boston, Massachusetts for the Public Relations Student Society of America National Conference, I think my mind is officially changed.
The conference was full of speakers from major companies, networking events, opening parties, free food, awards dinners and more. There was never really a dull moment and the conference was very helpful. It also didn’t hurt that the conference was held in Boston which is an incredible city to visit and tour. The only complaint I could bring would be the lack of sleep I received. Some of this was due to traveling, and some of it was due to the amount of things on the schedule. Although it made my time and money worth it to hear from so many professionals and students in a few short days.
Overall, I would now recommend going to conferences if possible in your career. I left feeling passionate about my profession, more knowledgeable, better prepared to start my career and with a larger network at the end of the day.
Have you ever been to a conference? What did you think about it?
I have never been to a conference but they seem like so much fun! I kind of wish I learned more about the PRSSA conference before it happened.
