Yankee Doodle, Give Me A Candle!

When I hear Christmas, I smell a freshly cut tree and hot chocolate. When I hear fall, I smell pumpkin and autumn leaves. When I hear summer, I smell the chlorine of a pool and sunscreen. Scent has always been one of my most prevalent senses. Good or bad, the scent of a room, person, place or thing is the first aspect I take in and the last one to leave my mind. Scents that I enjoy make me happy and can make me feel calm. However, scents that I dislike can be very distracting and overbearing for me.

Last week I decided to go on an international trip with the Ohio Northern University choir. This trip will allow me to travel to Paris and Amsterdam and sing in venues such as the Norte Dame Cathedral. The trip is an incredible experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. Although the cost can be frightening, the choir has created various fundraising opportunities for the students, one being a Yankee Candle fundraiser.

I absolutely love candles and have always been a fan of Yankee Candle. In the past I didn't take part in most of the fundraisers at school. I didn't love the idea of going door to door, or pressuring others to buy certain items from a catalog. However this time I was very intrigued by the setup of the Yankee Candle fundraiser. The setup is comparable to other fundraisers with a 30 day time frame for in person orders through a catalog. However, there is also an online option. The online option goes for the entire school year and creates an easy way for people to buy the candles on their own time. This online option gives them privacy in their choosing to buy, individual opportunities to buy what you want, gives you more time to think about your decision and browse at your leisure. The online option can be used all school year and will create a great fundraiser atmosphere, hopefully while helping me pay for my trip!

I am looking forward to seeing how this fundraiser goes. I am incredibly excited for my trip this summer as it will be my first time to Europe.
