Stand Up for Social Media
Stand Up for Social Media!
Social Media is not for everyone. More importantly, running social media for an organization isn’t for everyone. Many people are so immersed in being an active user of social media, they believe it must be easy to run a companies account. However, due to the immensely different goals of a personal account and a company account, that is nowhere near to be true. This is something companies fail to understand when it gives their intern control of their social media. It thinks because the intern is young they are probably active on social media and capable to run social media. People make their own, personal social media account to socialize or enjoy what’s good and new. However, a company or organization uses social media to “enhance their brand, grow the visibility of our company, product, or service or even use social media to sell more stuff” as Jason McDonald explains in his “Social Media Marketing Workbook.”
Social media for a company can be intense work and a little scary at first. However, the benefits of using social media as a tool can be incredibly rewarding. That is what makes me excited to keep diving into social media content and learn more and more about it. In the first chapter of Jason McDonald’s post, he talks about how his workbook will help with both the theory and the practice of social media marketing.
A lot of people in a company or organization don’t see the reason and effort toward social media. It either thinks anyone can do it or it thinks it isn’t necessary for a company. I would say I agree with Jason McDonald’s reasons as to why social media marketing is necessary. Jason states that social media is big, your customers are on social media, social media is free and social media can reach not only existing but also new customers.
