We Love You Miss America!

Since 1921, The Miss America Organization has built role models, leaders, made a difference through charitable and community service endeavors, provided education on important issues and has valued the empowerment of young women everywhere. Miss America is know for empowering young women to achieve their dreams and setting goals for themselves along with helping the communities around them. The competition has very high stakes and it is an honor each year to even compete for the title, Miss America.

Spring semester I ended up following the 2017 Miss America, Savvy Shields, on Instagram. I am not sure why I ended up following the Miss America account. Instead I want to talk about why I stayed a loyal follower. Sometimes you end up following random accounts, but end up unfollowing them soon after due to posts that are not of your interest, a lack of posts or even just because you want to follow less people and they didn’t make the cut. The Miss America Instagram is an account I now follow very closely and enjoy their posts. I think this is a lesson to learn from by looking at their content, profile, type of posts and personality on Instagram that keeps me an avid follower.

1. Constant Updates: The Instagram account has constant content being posted daily. The content is exciting as it keeps up on the daily life of Miss America. The reason this works so well for the Miss America account, is because of her title. Giving a glimpse into the life of Miss America is exciting and different for followers to see. The celebrity insider status of the posts keeps me watching for the next post on a daily basis.

2. Lighthearted Personality: The current personality of this account is very lighthearted and all things fun. The content is full of charity efforts, traveling the United States, wearing cute outfits with her crown and more. This is exactly the content I am looking for from Miss America.

3. Wide Variety of Content: The account posts a wide variety of content from makeup tutorials to videos of her speaking about her platform. The content is exciting and always has a fresh twist to it. The account also uses different mediums such as videos, Boomerangs, Instagram Live videos or quality images.

4. Savvy Makes It Personal: Savvy Shields was the 2017 Miss America. Her personality shines through her Instagram as a fun, happy, encouraging and determined woman. She is empowering just by showing the world who she is through her social media. Some days I feel like I know her due to the amount of time I spend looking at her social media account and learning about her platform, goals, hobbies and life!

Overall, I loved getting to follow Savvy Shields as the Miss America of 2017. Her posts made her personable, I enjoyed learning more about the pageant world and I truly love their social media!
