All About the Gains. The Following Gains.

Social media used to be a place that was mostly for personal use. You could add friends, chat with people, share your opinions and so much more all in one place. As social media has grown, businesses have caught on more and more to the opportunities it can give. The social media grid started out small and if you were posting something it was getting attention. However, as social media has grown, you can’t just expect something good to get awareness. With so much content on every single platform, your information can easily be drowned out by all of the noise.

The key to getting through the massive amounts of content on social media is to start with great content. Not only should you have great content, but content that is relevant to your target audiences. Another aspect of your social media account that helps engagement and people seeing your content, is to have a large following. A large following sounds fantastic! But, how do you get that kind of following if your content isn’t able to break through other accounts?

As I begin to work more and more closely with social media I tend to ask the same starting question. How do I gain more followers? I am currently reading a book, “The Art of Social Media,” to learn more about social media and the effort behind making a great account. This book has been a great resource for a multitude of topics including optimizing your profile, content creation, perfecting your posts, responding to comments and more. However, I was disappointed when I got to the section discussing how to get more followers, and there were only two pages. I believe this is a topic that most social media students are looking for answers.

I would have appreciated more content in this chapter about tried experiences, failed experiences or really any experience in general. I am working with a client currently who has great content, but we are doing our best to work on the account following. I would have loved to get more ideas on ways to build the amount of followers an account has.
