Podcasts Help!
Traffic. Oh, what a love, hate relationship we have. This
summer, so much of my time was spent sitting in a car wishing the cars in front
of me were going faster. I’m not usually one to drive with road rage but
sitting in traffic for at least two hours every day might have changed that.
Maybe I didn’t have road rage, but I definitely think I was a sad driver some
days after work. This summer I commuted to the middle of downtown Columbus,
Ohio where I worked every Monday through Friday. At a normal time, the drive to
work should have taken 30 minutes. At rush hour, it usually took an hour at
least to make it to work. This began my love, hate relationship with traffic.
Let’s start with the hate. I can’t imagine many things that
are more frustrating than sitting in a car after a long day at work, with the
cars in front of you completely stopped. If I didn’t have music on, I often
found myself just upset about my whereabouts for the moment. I can be a pretty
positive person. Although there is nothing like some heavy traffic to bring
your mood down. It also was stressful and upsetting for me to get home so late.
After work, all I wanted to do was be home, out of my work clothes, eating food
or doing something on my own time. When stuck in the car, I was usually angry
that I couldn’t be doing something else.
Let’s move to the love. I hesitate to use the word love, but
I use it mostly for the flow of the cliché statement. Being in traffic so much
this semester pushed me to find some kind of distraction. That probably sounds
strange because I am driving. Not a distraction from driving, but a distraction
from my thoughts. If I got tired of listening to the radio, I often found
myself just angry that I was in traffic. Many people recommended that I start
listening to podcasts, so I did. I thought I would share my two favorite podcasts
that I enjoyed this summer so that if you ever find yourself stuck in traffic,
you don’t have to sit angry!
